NS class 9500

Inventory of the kit

The kit comes a reasonably sturdy box. It is not overly well packed like DJH so I would not entrust it for worldwide shipment by Fedex. But having bought it rather lamely on a fair in person the box suffices.

The set of etches was a bit bent here and there but nothing serious. Some parts have already been taken out for pre-forming.

The rest of the loco was present in loose etched parts,separately packed in plastic bags and an old fashioned photo container full of goodies.

Smokebox door and handle

The handle demonstrates two things

  • the commendable casting work
  • the excellent macro capabilities of my new lens
Smokebox wrapper and boiler are provided pre-bent. Personally I am not happy with the pre-bending as the smokebox wrapper will require more work to iron out the faults in the pre-bending than bending is from flat sheet.
Firebox Driver's cab

Rear coal bunker panel
Chimney, which is the correct one if you want to model the 1930s. Lamps and lamp holders
Grab irons Jacks
Handrail knobs. They are tiny! I wonder if I will use them because their casting was not too accurate. ermmmm
One air pump, I will a second pump as I will build the loco in its 1930s guise. Smokebox underside
Bell Dome
Safety valve (covered) Wash plugs
Whistle Boiler backhead
Steps and sand boxes Door panels

Throat plate
Number plates and transfers
Various valves Buffers, which I will replace by sprung buffers
Air hoses And finally some technical stuff

A few things are not present in the kit which I will acquire myself

  • the second air pump that was later installed to improve the braking capabilities of the loco;
  • sprung buffers;
  • sprung European link couplings.
